Successful 10th German Wind Energy Conference
High quality of contributions at the DEWEK in Bremen attracted over 600 wind experts from 28 countries
More than 600 participants from 28 countries attended the 10th German Wind Energy Conference DEWEK which took place on 17 and 18 November 2010 in Bremen. The conference organised by DEWI GmbH has established itself as a must-attend event for technical-scientific exchange of information in the wind industry.
Once again, the high quality of the conference contributions proved to be the trademark of DEWEK. 105 papers and over 80 poster contributions by authors from 21 countries offered a broad spectrum for discussions among the experts from science and industry about current topics of wind energy technology. In the three conference rooms of the Congress Centrum Bremen delegates could choose among altogether 21 sessions with 5 papers each, all of them presented with English-German simultaneous translation.
Offshore wind energy was a main topic in many sessions and forums of the two-day conference. For example, the latest results from the RAVE research projects carried out in connection with the construction and operation of the first German test site „alpha ventus“ were presented. The participants also could gain a lot of knowledge about the technical challenges and experiences in the field of offshore wind energy in other countries.
Other subjects discussed in great detail at the DEWEK were the latest findings in the simulation and modelling of wind conditions and wind turbine technology as well as issues related to grid integration and rotor blade production. Apart from the lectures and the poster exhibition in the foyer, the conference also offered other opportunities for networking with other experts and colleagues in the pleasant atmosphere of the Bremen Congress Centrum, for example by visiting the exhibition right next to the foyer with 45 company booths, seating and get-together areas. The conference dinner in the cellar vaults of the historical town hall of Bremen on the evening of the first conference day with almost 300 guests was once more a true highlight of the DEWEK 2010.
On the day after this very successful conference, many delegates took the opportunity to participate in a one-day excursion. The first stop was Bremerhaven, where the AREVA Wind production facility of 5 MW offshore wind turbines could be visited, followed by the visit to the site of a wind turbine in operation, a 5MW turbine with jacket foundation made by REpower Systems. The next stop of the excursion was Cuxhaven where at the production plant of Cuxhaven Steel Construction the Tripile foundation structures for the offshore wind farm BARD Offshore I are manufactured. The excursion ended with a visit to the STRABAG terminal, where the prototype of a heavy-load foundation structure is being assembled.
The German Wind Energy Conference attended by scientists and engineers from 28 countries has been organised by DEWI GmbH- German Wind Energy Institute from Wilhelmshaven. With seven subsidiaries in Europe, Asia and North- and South America, DEWI is supporting wind turbine manufacturers, wind farm developers and operators in meanwhile 47 countries in developing the environmentally friendly power generation from wind energy. The DEWEK 2010 therefore also was a meeting place for the many engineers and scientists having business relations with DEWI.
