FINO1 RAVE - Research at alpha ventus Repowering Dena Grid Study 2

FINO1 is a research platform for the offshore wind energy generation of the Federal Ministry of Environment (BMU). DEWI is responsible for the meteorological measurements on FINO1.

Electricity from offshore wind turbines will make an important contribution to tomorrow's energy policy. With a view to determining the effects on the marine flora and fauna, the research project FINO was initiated. On a research platform in the North Sea, a comprehensive series of measurements and investigations are being performed. The results are expected to yield findings of great importance for the technical and environmental assessment of wind technology.

RAVE - Research at alpha ventus

One of the main topics currently is offshore wind energy, which is being investigated intensively and analysed with regard to possible technical risks and requirements using the specifically installed FINO research platforms. DEWI is responsible for the meteorological and structural measurements on FINO 1 located in the North Sea 45 km north of Borkum, next to the German Offshore Test Site alpha ventus. At alpha ventus, a major research project, RAVE (Research at Alpha VEntus), has been initiated where DEWI is responsible for the overall planning and realization of measurements, including the continuous development of the general measurement concept, the measurement systems and data management. DEWI is also a cooperation partner in various RAVE research projects such as OWEA and LIDAR.

The German Association of Towns and Municipalities (Deutscher Städte- und Gemeindebund, DStGB) has published the documentation No. 111 titled „Kommunale Handlungsmöglichkeiten beim Ausbau der Windenergie – unter besonderer Berücksichtigung des Repowering" (Opportunities for municipal activities for wind power development – especially taking into account repowering). The publication was presented at a symposium organized by the „Repowering- InfoBörse“ (Info panel on repowering) on 6./7.11.2012 in Berlin and is directly available (in German) – printed and as pdf download. The present guideline results from a project on repowering, initiated by the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety in co-operation with the German Association of Towns and Municipalities, in which also DEWI participated.  

Dena Grid Study 2

The study „Integration of Renewable Energies into the Electricity Grid in Germany in the Period of 2015 – 2020 with Forecast on 2025” (dena Grid Study 2) was prepared by a consortium led by the Institute of Energy Economics at the University of Cologne (EWI). The study was carried out in cooperation with DEWI, Fraunhofer Institute for wind energy and energy system technology (IWES), 50Hertz Transmission GmbH, Amprion GmbH, EnBW Transportnetze AG and TenneT TSO GmbH.
